On June 12-16, Deerfield High School will host Camp Invention, a program of the non-profit National Inventors Hall of Fame for students entering grades second through sixth next fall. Activities include “Spills and Chills,” a module meant to give students the opportunity to improve the safety of skateboards, testing them with dummies. “Planet Zak” is an activity where students reassemble a crashed spacecraft, make plans to find food and shelter, design clothing to protect themselves from the imaginary elements, and design ways to launch their spacecraft back into space. Sounds pretty neat. Each module of the program lasts around an hour. If you register before May 31st at (800) 968-4332, you receive $20 off the camp fee. Have fun!

Stock spotlight: Dade Behring Holdings
Deerfield-based Dade Behring Holdings rose $3.77, or 11 percent, to $37.75 Thursday. The maker of diagnostic tests said profit rose to 38 cents a share, beating the 34-cent average estimate of analysts surveyed by Thomson.

And that’s what the Chicagoland Pops Orchestra is offering Saturday night when the renowned ensemble, under the direction of Arnie Roth, presents “Bugs Bunny on Broadway,” a unique and family-friendly evening of classic cartoons and classical music at the Rosemont Theatre.

The annual Deerfield Fine Arts Festival will be held on June 3rd and 4th, 2006 in downtown Deerfield. For an application to participate in the festival, contact D and W Events, Inc., at 847/438-4517 or at www.dwevents.org. Volunteers are also needed to assist. The festival is sponsored by the Deerfield Fine Arts Commission and the Village of Deerfield, and regularly showcases the work of over 100 artists and artisans from around the country as well as local artists. There will also be activities for children and live music. This year the event will be held from 10AM to 5PM on the corner of Park Avenue and Deerfield Road.
